FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What's the current Amex Platinum welcome bonus?
175,000 Membership Rewards after spending $12,000 in the first 6 months. Welcome bonus offers change frequently — the value shown on this page is updated against the issuer's published offer. For the live offer, click through to the apply page; the bonus is confirmed at approval time, not click time.
Is the Amex Platinum worth the $895 annual fee?
For first-year cardholders the answer is usually yes — the welcome bonus (~$3,500 estimated cash value) plus tracked statement credits typically cover the $895 fee several times over. After year one, the math depends on whether you actually use the recurring credits and category multipliers. Run your real spending through our Annual Fee Calculator before deciding to renew.
How many transfer partners does Amex Platinum have?
Amex Platinum earns Membership Rewards (Amex MR), which transfers 1:1 to 21+ airline and hotel programmes as of 2026. Compared to other transferable-points programmes, that puts it in the upper tier — only Amex MR has more partners. For sweet-spot redemptions, transferring to a partner typically beats portal redemption by 2-3× CPP.
Can I transfer Amex Platinum points to World of Hyatt?
No. Membership Rewards (Amex MR) does not have a Hyatt transfer partnership. Only Chase Ultimate Rewards, Bilt Rewards, and the co-branded World of Hyatt card transfer to Hyatt at 1:1. If Hyatt redemptions are your primary value lever, Amex Platinum can still serve as a category-earn card — but pair it with a Chase Sapphire or Bilt for Hyatt access.
What airport lounge access does Amex Platinum include?
Amex Platinum includes the Amex Centurion Lounge network plus Priority Pass (worldwide, the best owned-lounge programme). Lounge networks differ significantly between issuers — Centurion is Amex-only, Sapphire Lounges are Chase-only, Capital One Lounges are Cap One only. Pick the card whose network actually exists at the airports you fly through.
What credit score do I need for Amex Platinum?
Realistic target: 740+ FICO. Issuers don't publish hard cutoffs, but data points from approval/denial reports suggest 740+ is the floor for reliable approval on cards in Amex Platinum's tier. Income, debt-to-income ratio, and existing relationship with Amex also matter — use our Approval Predictor for a more personalized estimate.
