What's happening
The Capital One Lounge at Washington Dulles (IAD) will undergo a partial closure starting July 9, 2026. The lounge will remain accessible in a reduced capacity during the renovation. Full reopening is expected in fall 2026 — Capital One has not given a specific date beyond "fall."
Which areas close: The cocktail bar and expanded dining area will be unavailable. The core seating and basic food/beverage service will continue in the unaffected section.
Who is affected
Primarily Venture X cardholders, who receive complimentary Capital One Lounge access as a core benefit. Venture (non-X) cardholders receive 2 visits per year and are equally affected during their visits.
Authorized users on Venture X also receive lounge access — their experience will be similarly limited.
What stays open
Capital One has confirmed the following will remain available during the partial closure:
- Core seating area (reduced capacity)
- Basic food and non-alcoholic beverage service
- Shower suites (confirm availability when booking — limited slots)
- Wi-Fi and power stations
- Staff assistance
What closes:
- Cocktail bar / full bar service
- Expanded hot food station
- Some seating sections
Is this worth adjusting your travel plans for?
Probably not. A few scenarios:
If you're already flying through IAD: The lounge will still provide value over the main terminal — quiet seating, food, showers. The experience will be reduced but not eliminated.
If you're choosing between IAD and DCA for a DC-area trip: DCA (Reagan) has no Capital One Lounge. IAD remains the only DC-area airport with a Capital One Lounge regardless of closure status.
If you have Priority Pass or Amex Centurion lounge access: IAD has a Priority Pass network (CNBC Studios Space is available), and you have alternatives.
Capital One Lounge network — alternatives
Capital One Lounges are at only 3 US airports:
| Airport | Location | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) | Terminal D | Open (full) |
| Denver (DEN) | Concourse B | Open (full) |
| Washington Dulles (IAD) | Concourse D | Partial closure Jul 9 – fall 2026 |
Capital One also provides Priority Pass access for Venture X cardholders (unlimited visits + 2 guests free). At IAD, Priority Pass lounges include:
- The Club at IAD (Priority Pass)
- Access to partner lounges depending on terminal
So Venture X holders at IAD have a full fallback through Priority Pass during the Capital One Lounge closure.
Venture X's core benefit is not at risk
The partial Dulles closure doesn't affect the Venture X value proposition meaningfully. The card's main annual benefits — $300 travel credit, 10,000 anniversary bonus miles, unlimited lounge access — remain intact. This is a temporary renovation inconvenience, not a benefit reduction.
Timeline
| Date | What happens |

| July 9, 2026 | Partial closure begins |
| Fall 2026 (TBD) | Expected full reopening |
Action items
- If you have a July or August IAD flight, assume partial service and plan to use Priority Pass lounges as backup
- Shower reservations: if shower access is important to your trip, contact Capital One lounge directly or check availability in advance — reduced capacity may mean earlier reservation times
- No credits, compensation, or fee waivers announced — this is treated as a renovation, not a benefit suspension
