Chase and Hyatt logos with a declining points graph

Chase just dropped a bombshell for points enthusiasts: starting July 1, 2026, the 1:1 transfer ratio from Chase Ultimate Rewards to World of Hyatt will no longer be available on several popular cards. If you rely on Freedom or Ink Cash cards to rack up Hyatt points, this is a major hit to your travel strategy.

What Changed

  • Transfer ratio for select cards: 1:1 → 1:0.8 (effective July 1, 2026)
  • Impacted cards: Chase Freedom Unlimited, Freedom Flex, Ink Business Cash, Ink Business Unlimited
  • Unaffected cards: Chase Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve, Ink Business Preferred (still 1:1)
  • Example: 10,000 UR points = 8,000 Hyatt points (was 10,000)

Who Benefits Most

  • Sapphire cardholders: If you have a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve, you keep the 1:1 transfer—no loss. For every 50,000 UR points, you still get 50,000 Hyatt points (worth ~$850 at 1.7¢/pt).
  • Big spenders on Sapphire/Ink Preferred: Those funneling spend through Sapphire or Ink Business Preferred cards can maximize Hyatt value without penalty.
  • Travelers planning to transfer soon: If you have large UR balances on Freedom or Ink Cash, transferring before July 1 preserves full value. For example, $20,000 spend at 1.5x (Freedom Unlimited) = 30,000 UR = 30,000 Hyatt points now ($510 value), but only 24,000 Hyatt points ($408) after July.

Who Should Be Cautious

  • Freedom/Ink Cash-only users: If you only earn UR with Freedom Unlimited, Freedom Flex, Ink Cash, or Ink Unlimited, your Hyatt transfer value drops 20% after July 1.
  • Those without Sapphire/Ink Preferred: Without a premium card, you can't transfer at 1:1—making Hyatt redemptions less compelling.
  • Occasional Hyatt redeemers: If you rarely transfer to Hyatt, this may not impact you—but you'll get less value if you do.

What To Do Right Now

  1. Transfer UR points to Hyatt before July 1 if you have Freedom or Ink Cash balances and plan Hyatt stays soon.
  2. Consider upgrading to Sapphire Preferred/Reserve if you want to keep 1:1 Hyatt transfers long-term.
  3. Review your earning strategy: Focus new spend on Sapphire or Ink Business Preferred for Hyatt value.
  4. Redeem Hyatt points for high-value stays—Hyatt points are still among the most valuable in the hotel world.
