The world of hotel points just got a little more flexible: as of this week, Aeroplan Miles can now be used to book Hyatt stays. This change means travelers now have six different points currencies they can use for Hyatt redemptions, opening up new ways to maximize value and flexibility for award nights.

Our Take

Mixed. While adding Aeroplan as a Hyatt redemption option is a win for flexibility—especially for those sitting on a pile of Aeroplan Miles—it’s unlikely to be the best value for most travelers. Hyatt’s own points (especially from Chase or Bilt transfers) still offer the strongest redemption rates. But for those with orphaned Aeroplan balances or limited access to other currencies, this is a welcome new tool.

What Changed

  • Aeroplan Miles can now be redeemed for Hyatt hotel stays
  • Hyatt now accepts six points currencies: Chase Ultimate Rewards, Bilt Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, Capital One Miles, Marriott Bonvoy Points, and Aeroplan Miles
  • This is a permanent program addition, not a limited-time promo (as of July 2026)

Who Benefits Most

  • Aeroplan hoarders with no travel plans to Canada or Star Alliance flights: If you have 50,000 Aeroplan Miles (~$700 by our valuation) and no upcoming Air Canada or partner flights, you can now use those miles for Hyatt nights instead of letting them sit unused.
  • Travelers with mixed points balances: If you’re short on Hyatt points for a dream stay, you can now top up with Aeroplan Miles, potentially unlocking a multi-night booking.
  • Points optimizers with access to all six currencies: You can now cherry-pick the best value for each Hyatt booking, using Aeroplan when it offers a better deal (such as during transfer bonuses or specific promos).
  • International travelers who earn Aeroplan Miles abroad: You can now use your miles for Hyatt stays worldwide, not just for flights.

Who Should Be Cautious

  • Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards holders: These currencies still transfer 1:1 to Hyatt and offer the best value per point (~1.65¢/pt), so using Aeroplan Miles (valued at 1.4¢/pt) for Hyatt is generally less efficient.
  • Aeroplan fans who maximize flight redemptions: Aeroplan’s best value is still for premium cabin flights—using miles for Hyatt may mean giving up outsized flight value.
  • Marriott Bonvoy loyalists: Marriott points transfer to Hyatt at poor rates; this change doesn’t improve that situation, so stick with direct Hyatt earning if possible.

What To Do Right Now

  1. Check your Aeroplan balance—if you have unused miles, explore Hyatt redemption options for upcoming trips.
  2. Compare redemption rates: before booking, check if using Chase, Bilt, or Aeroplan offers the best value for your Hyatt stay.
  3. If you’re planning a big Hyatt stay and are short on points, see if topping up with Aeroplan Miles makes sense for your situation.
  4. Watch for future transfer bonuses or promos that could make Aeroplan-to-Hyatt redemptions more lucrative.
