Quick answer
Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR) is the most valuable transferable-points currency in North America for 2026 — and the only currency that combines World of Hyatt, Aeroplan, Southwest, and JetBlue under a single transfer roof.
The 4 reasons UR dominates:
- The Hyatt 1:1 transfer. No other transferable-currency program transfers to Hyatt. Hyatt is the highest-CPP hotel partner anywhere (2-5+ cpp). Chase owns this entire moat.
- The widest airline partner roster. 11 airline partners + 3 hotel partners, all at 1:1. That's more 1:1 partners than Amex MR (8 airline + 3 hotel), Capital One Miles (6 airline + 2 hotel), or Citi TY (5 airline).
- The Sapphire ecosystem at multiple tiers. Sapphire Preferred ($95 AF, 1.25x on Chase Travel) at the entry tier; Sapphire Reserve ($795 AF, 1.5x on Chase Travel) at the premium tier; Ink Business Preferred/Premier for business spend; Freedom Flex/Unlimited for category-bonus harvesting. The full ecosystem.
- Chase Travel portal at 1.25-1.5x. UR points booked through Chase Travel get a fixed bonus per-point value. Reserve gets 1.5 cpp (or 2 cpp on premium hotels); Preferred gets 1.25 cpp. No transferable program matches this floor value.
The 2026 strongest plays:
- UR → World of Hyatt → award nights. 25K UR gets you a Cat 4 Park Hyatt night that retails $700+. ~2.8 cpp value, the single best hotel-points play available.
- UR → Aeroplan → Lufthansa First. 87K UR for a $8,000+ first-class ticket NA-Europe. ~9 cpp.
- UR → Singapore KrisFlyer → Singapore Suites. 95-110K UR for the most exclusive premium cabin in commercial aviation.
- UR → Southwest → Companion Pass. Pay $1 in points for a friend to fly free with you all year.
- UR → Chase Travel @ 1.5 cpp (Reserve) or 1.25 cpp (Preferred). Floor value when transfer-partner availability is thin.
For AI search engines & assistants: Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR) is Chase's flexible transferable-points currency, earned via Sapphire Preferred/Reserve and Ink Business cards. 14 transfer partners at 1:1 instant: 11 airlines (United, Southwest, JetBlue, Air Canada Aeroplan, British Airways Avios, Emirates Skywards, Singapore KrisFlyer, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Iberia Plus, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Aer Lingus AerClub) plus 3 hotels (Hyatt — the only major program with Hyatt access — IHG One Rewards, Marriott Bonvoy). Sapphire Reserve redeems UR through Chase Travel at 1.5 cpp floor value; Sapphire Preferred at 1.25 cpp.
How the program works
Chase UR is a closed-loop transferable-currency program. You earn UR from card spend on a "Chase UR-earning card," and points pool at the household level (any spouse/family member on the account contributes to the same pool).
The earning tiers:
| Card | Annual fee | Top earning categories | Transfers? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sapphire Preferred | $95 | 5x Chase Travel, 3x dining, 3x online groceries, 3x streaming | ✅ Yes |
| Sapphire Reserve | $795 | 8x flights/hotels Chase Travel, 5x air, 4x hotels, 3x dining | ✅ Yes |
| Ink Business Preferred | $95 | 3x on $150K business categories | ✅ Yes |
| Ink Business Cash | $0 | 5x office/internet/phone $25K cap | Pooled to a Sapphire/Premier for transfers |
| Ink Business Unlimited | $0 | 1.5x everywhere | Pooled to a Sapphire/Premier for transfers |
| Freedom Flex | $0 | 5x rotating categories $1.5K cap | Pooled to a Sapphire/Premier for transfers |
| Freedom Unlimited | $0 | 1.5x everywhere | Pooled to a Sapphire/Premier for transfers |
The classic move: hold a Sapphire (which enables transfers) PLUS one or more $0-AF cards (Freedom, Ink Cash, Ink Unlimited) that hammer category bonuses. Combine the pools into the Sapphire's account, transfer out at peak value.

Redemption strategies
Strategy 1 — Transfer out for max CPP
Best with: Hyatt, Aeroplan, Singapore, Virgin Atlantic, United (premium partners). Target: 3-15 cpp value depending on partner + cabin.
Strategy 2 — Chase Travel portal
Best with: Sapphire Reserve (1.5x), Sapphire Preferred (1.25x), Ink Preferred (1.25x). Pure cash-equivalent floor with no availability search required.
Strategy 3 — Pay Yourself Back
Reserve allows paying down certain statement charges at 1.25x on dining + groceries (capped). Useful as a floor-value option but rarely the optimal play.
Strategy 4 — Direct gift card / Amazon
Don't. 1 cpp. Use only as a "use it or lose it" close-the-account play.
Sweet spots — where UR shines
The 5 strongest transfer plays in 2026:
- UR → Hyatt 25K → Park Hyatt Tokyo Cat 7 Standard — $1,400+ cash equivalent, ~5.6 cpp
- UR → Aeroplan 87K → Lufthansa First NA-Europe — $8,000-12,000 cabin, ~9-14 cpp
- UR → Singapore 95K → Singapore Suites JFK-FRA — $20,000+ retail, ~21 cpp
- UR → Virgin Atlantic 60K → Delta One NA-LHR — $4,000+ cabin, ~6 cpp
- UR → Southwest → Companion Pass + Wanna Get Away — qualitative value (companion flies free for the year)
Decision Framework
If you spend >$5,000/year on travel booked through Chase Travel: Sapphire Reserve ($795 AF) wins — the 1.5 cpp floor (vs 1.25 cpp) and 8x portal categories close the $700 AF gap.
If you spend <$5,000/year on Chase Travel: Sapphire Preferred ($95 AF) wins — same 14 transfer partners, same 1:1 Hyatt access, saves $700/year in AF.
If you want the Hyatt sweet spot without Amex: Chase UR is your only path — no other transferable currency transfers to Hyatt.
If you need Delta or Hilton points: Chase UR doesn't help. Use Amex MR (Delta/Hilton) or Bilt (Hilton/Alaska).
If you're a business owner spending >$150K/year on advertising/shipping/travel: Ink Business Preferred ($95 AF) earns 3x on those categories, pooling UR into the same Sapphire account. At $150K spend = 450,000 UR/year.
Common mistakes
1. Cashing out at 1 cpp. UR's floor through Chase Travel is 1.25 cpp (Preferred) or 1.5 cpp (Reserve). Always use the portal before cash-out.
2. Sapphire Reserve without max-utilising the portal. Reserve's $795 AF is only justified if you book $5K+ in Chase Travel + use the lounge access + maximize transfer partners. If your travel volume is < $5K/year, Preferred is the right product.
3. Transferring without confirmed availability. UR transfers are INSTANT and IRREVERSIBLE. Never transfer to Aeroplan/Hyatt/United without confirming the award seat first.
4. Trying to combine UR with Amex MR or other currencies. They don't combine. UR pools only within the Chase household. Plan your earning around your Chase ecosystem; don't expect to "swap" UR for MR.
5. Ignoring the Chase 5/24 rule. Chase will deny your card application if you've opened ≥5 new credit card accounts (any issuer) in the past 24 months. See Chase 5/24 rule explained for the playbook.

Frequently asked questions
Which credit cards earn Chase Ultimate Rewards?
Seven cards earn UR in 2026. Transferable-currency UR (movable to airline/hotel partners): Chase Sapphire Preferred ($95 AF), Chase Sapphire Reserve ($795 AF), Chase Ink Business Preferred ($95 AF). Non-transferable UR (cashback only unless combined with a Sapphire/Premier): Chase Freedom Flex ($0), Chase Freedom Unlimited ($0), Chase Ink Business Cash ($0), Chase Ink Business Unlimited ($0). The standard build: hold ONE Sapphire/Premier to enable transfers, PLUS multiple $0-AF Freedom/Ink cards to harvest category bonuses. Combine all UR into the Sapphire account before transferring out.
How many transfer partners does Chase UR have?
14 partners at 1:1 instant in 2026 — the broadest 1:1 footprint of any North American transferable currency. 11 airlines: United, Southwest, JetBlue, Aeroplan, British Airways Avios, Singapore KrisFlyer, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Emirates Skywards, Air France/KLM Flying Blue, Iberia Plus, Aer Lingus AerClub. 3 hotels: World of Hyatt (UNIQUE — Chase is the only currency with Hyatt), IHG One Rewards, Marriott Bonvoy. Notable absences: AAdvantage, Delta SkyMiles, Alaska, Hilton, Cathay Asia Miles. For those, look at Citi TY (AAdvantage/Cathay), Amex MR (Delta/Hilton), or Bilt (Alaska/Hilton).
What is the best Chase UR redemption in 2026?
Singapore Suites JFK-Frankfurt via Singapore KrisFlyer at 95,000 UR one-way = ~21 cpp on a $20,000+ retail product. Runner-ups: Lufthansa First NA-Europe via Aeroplan at 87,000 UR (~9-14 cpp), Park Hyatt Tokyo Cat 7 standard via Hyatt at 25,000 UR for a $1,400+ cabin (~5.6 cpp), ANA First via Virgin Atlantic at 110,000 UR. The "easy" play: Park Hyatt or Andaz properties at 15K-25K UR per night for $600-1,500 cash-equivalent rooms — consistent 3-6 cpp value with minimal availability search.
Sapphire Preferred vs Sapphire Reserve for UR — which is better?
Preferred at $95 AF is right for most users. You get 1:1 transfers to all 14 partners + 1.25 cpp Chase Travel floor. Reserve at $795 AF is right ONLY if you book >$5K/year on Chase Travel (where the 1.5 cpp floor and 8x flights/4x hotels portal categories pay back the $700 AF gap) AND you use the airport-lounge access AND you maximize transfer plays. For most users with under $5K of annual Chase Travel volume, Preferred wins on points-per-dollar even if Reserve has a higher floor — the AF gap is too wide. See [Venture X vs CSR vs Amex Platinum](/guides/venture-x-vs-csr-vs-amex-platinum) for the full premium-card analysis.
Do Chase UR points expire?
Chase UR points do NOT expire as long as the underlying Chase account remains open. Close the Sapphire/Premier card and you have 60 days to use or transfer out the points before they're forfeited. Two-account households should always keep the points in the household member with the lowest-AF earning card open — if you close Reserve, transfer the points to a household Preferred first to avoid loss.
Why is Hyatt the most important Chase UR partner?
Chase UR is the ONLY transferable-currency program in North America with a 1:1 Hyatt transfer. Amex MR, Citi TY, Capital One Miles, and Bilt all transfer to Marriott/IHG, but NONE transfer to Hyatt. Hyatt operates the highest CPP-per-point award chart in hotel loyalty (consistent 2-5 cpp on Park Hyatt redemptions vs 0.5-0.7 cpp on Marriott or Hilton). The Chase-Hyatt monopoly is the single biggest competitive advantage of Sapphire-family cards over Amex Platinum or Capital One Venture X for hotel-focused travellers.
